Texas Hold’em Poker Legends
Stu is thought to be by many to the finest NL Hold’em Poker gambler ever.
The three time World Poker Champion was born in New York in 1953 and began betting poker before becomming a teenager.
The young bettor started out playing gin and at the age of ten had won his first gin tournament, while on holiday with his parents. By the age of 14 the little poker genius had become a pro and dropped out of school.
In ‘54 Stu entered the record books by winning 10,000 dollars in a gin tournament without sacrificing a single hand, a record which still remains in New York these days.
The fast talking superstar has been likened, in poker terms, to sporting greats such as Joe Namath and Tiger Woods. Stu had a real ability for betting poker except regardless of his successes in Holdem poker, he favored wagering gin.
Stu once said that there might some day be a improved No Limit Texas hold’em player than him except he could not see how anyone could ever be a far better gin player.
In ‘80 Stu Ungar was put on the world map as one of the ideal Hold’em Poker players in the entire world when he was crowned World Poker Champ for the very first time. Astonishingly it was the first time he had played in the tournament.
The following year he dismissed any thoughts that it had been luck, by effectively protecting his crown. And in ‘97 Stu set the record by succeeding his 3rd World poker championship.
But this poker master also struggled with drug abuse and a year following winning his 3rd title Stu Ungar past away in his hotel room. According to doctors, he had passed away from a heart attack which was triggered by his lifestyle.
Stu had started with nothing except his ability and expertise for the casino game which made this poker fantastic a millionaire quite a few times over.
