Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player on the planet by many of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he possibly could about poker. He would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the negative comments from others destroy his dream of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

He started competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated a number of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his success. He admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
