Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender on the globe by many of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn whatever he could about the game. He routinely would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the negative feedback from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.

Phil started playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his achievements. He knows he makes errors every single session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Although Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
