Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender on the planet by most of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning one. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to discover anything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from others kill his dream of being one of the best poker players on the planet.

Phil started playing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing passion for poker. He says that he’s learning every day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
