No-Limit Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender in the world by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup every little thing he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the adverse comments from others kill his dream of being one of the best poker players in the world.
He began competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal love for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. He knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
