Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player in the world by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn every little thing he could about poker. He would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the negative comments from other people annihilate his goal of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching period and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
