Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender in the world by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover everything he could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the adverse feedback from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
Phil began competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable love for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his achievements. He admits to making blunders every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.
Although Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
