Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender on the planet by many of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. He would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the negative comments from others kill his dream of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

Phil started competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated a number of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an eternal passion for poker. He says that he is picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Although Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
