Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker player in the world by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover whatever he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the adverse feedback from other people destroy his ambition of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

Phil started playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching experience and winning was not a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He states that he is picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and always strives to get better.

Even though Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
