He did not let the adverse comments from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.
Phil started playing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Ivey credits his success to hard work and an undying passion for poker. He says that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making errors every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
