Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor on the planet by many of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover anything he possibly could about poker. He routinely would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the adverse feedback from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.

He began playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing love for the game of poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Even though Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
