Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player in the world by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup anything he could about the game. He would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse feedback from others annihilate his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

Phil began playing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an undying passion for the game of poker. He states that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his achievements. He knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and always strives to get better.

Even though Phil has won some big tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
