Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the detrimental comments from other people kill his goal of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.

Phil began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching period and winning was not a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and a continuing love for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is very humble about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
