Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker player on the planet by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning one. His papa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn whatever he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from other people destroy his goal of being one of the best poker players on the planet.

He began competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed a number of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal love for poker. Phil states that he is learning every day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Although Ivey has won some big tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
