Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender in the world by most of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover everything he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the negative comments from other people destroy his dream of being one of the best poker players on the planet.

Phil began competing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning period and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing love for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s learning every day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He admits to making blunders every single game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
