Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender on the globe by many of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn every little thing he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the detrimental feedback from other people destroy his ambition of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

He began competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing love for poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his success. He knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Although Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
