Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup every little thing he possibly could about poker. He would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the detrimental feedback from other people destroy his goal of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

Phil started competing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal love for the game of poker. He states that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil admits to making errors in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Although Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
