No-Limit Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor on the planet by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover whatever he could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the negative feedback from others annihilate his dream of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
Phil began playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning was not a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated a number of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing love for poker. He says that he is picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and always strives to improve.
Even though Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
