Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender on the globe by many of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover every little thing he possibly could about the game. He would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the adverse comments from others destroy his dream of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

He started playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated a number of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and a continuing love for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his achievements. He knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
