NL Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player on the globe by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the adverse feedback from other people kill his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
Phil started playing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing love for poker. He says that he is learning every single day and is quite abashed about his success. Phil admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and always strives to improve.
Even though Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
