Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His papa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to pickup everything he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the detrimental feedback from others annihilate his dream of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

He began competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing love for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making blunders every single session of poker and always strives to improve.

Although Ivey has won some big tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
