Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker competitor on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn anything he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the detrimental feedback from others kill his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.

Phil began competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed a number of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
