Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor in the world by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover anything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the adverse feedback from other people destroy his goal of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.

He started playing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s learning every day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He admits to making errors in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
