Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor in the world by most of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover anything he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from others destroy his dream of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.

He began competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every day and is very abashed about his success. He admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
