No-Limit Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker player in the world by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. He would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the negative comments from other people kill his goal of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.
He started competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable love for poker. He states that he is learning every day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making blunders in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
