Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player in the world by quite a few of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover every little thing he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not permit the adverse comments from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

He began competing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an undying passion for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his success. He knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and always strives to get better.

Even though Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
