NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender on the planet by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of one. His papa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn everything he could about the game. He routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the negative comments from other people destroy his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
He started playing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and a continuing love for poker. He states that he’s learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making blunders every single game of poker and always strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
